Next: Newport

Since we had decided to go east from Florence, we did a day drive in the truck further up the coast, to Newport.
It was a rainy day, but that just made things look greener and even prettier!  I had to stop at this little river and neat bridge.

And then, here's the Yaquina Bay Bridge!  Isn't it pretty?
 Under the bridge...
 On top of the bridge...!
Views from the bridge...
Looking down at the marina...
...and RV park.  Thought about us staying there but obviously decided against it!
 Yaquina Bay Lighthouse.
 Doggies, taking it all in.
Dog stop at sweet little park near lighthouse.
 Cool little path and everything!
 Coast guard station in Newport.

One of many awesome murals along the streets of downtown Newport.
Hmmm.  Think we might need this sign for our RV...!   : )   Or maybe the baseball/football team for Washington, D.C.?!!!

Not sure how we managed to capture this character walking past this mural, but it was too perfect!
 Down by the bay...
One of two famous tall ships (replicas from the 1700s/1800s) visiting Newport.  I think this one is the Hawaiian Chieftain.  If you look at a larger version of the marina photo (the one with the RV park - just click on the image), I think that might be the other tall ship (Lady Washington) in the background...?

Alsea Bay Bridge (this is a newer version - the original was demolished in 1991 due to on-going corrosion problems).

 Pretty coastline.
The 101 is pretty up and down and windy around here!

Yeah, a lot of these guys around.
Quick!  Get the fire extinguisher!  Her hair's on fire!  Ha-ha!  Actually, she reminds me of the Heat Miser from "Santa Claus is Coming to Town!"
C'mon!  It's a match, right??!!  Maybe her dad??  Brother??  Crazy uncle??
And no, she wasn't taking a picture of Bill and Hayes in the truck - she was photographing the really famous Heceta Head Lighthouse.  Unfortunately, I didn't have my long lens, and I'm sure Bill was ready to get back home - not go explore the lighthouse, so this is as close as I got this trip.
 The larger view.
